Bury sits about 8 miles north-west of Manchester, split in two by the River Irwell. The town centre stands above the east bank around The Rock and the Interchange, with Fishpool, Redvales, Walmersley and Jericho on that side in BL9. Over Bury Bridge, BL8 takes in Elton, Brandlesholme and Seddons Farm. The town grew on cotton, and the Peel Mills group on Castlecroft Road is still in use.
Before we quote in Bury we ask for the street, not only the postcode. A Fishpool terrace may sit in resident permit Zone F, a flat near the Interchange is beside TfGM's works from mid-November 2026, and a BL8 job most likely means crossing Bury Bridge.
The rental numbers here are real: Census 2021 counts 28,466 households across the 6 wards covering Bury, and 5,254 of them (18.5%) are privately rented, compared with 17.7% across the Bury borough as a whole. Every one of those Bury tenancies ends in a checkout inspection sooner or later.
