Property types we clean in Middleton.
Langley was built by Manchester Corporation as an overspill estate, largely between 1952 and 1968: 4,800 homes, their streets all named from the Lake District, from Windermere Road to Borrowdale Road and Latrigg Crescent. The remaining 3,360 council homes passed to Riverside in 2002, and ex-Right to Buy houses have since gone to private landlords. Hollin and Boarshaw are estates of the same mid-century, mainly ex-council type.
The old town is red brick. Rochdale Council's conservation appraisal for the town centre describes Victorian terraces on Durnford Street with rear yards reached by alleyways, weavers' cottages around Spring Gardens and Wood Street, and basement workshops on Sadler Street. More terraces run through Archer Park and along Rochdale Road; at the 2021 census 41.8% of North Middleton households lived in a terrace.
South Middleton, the ward covering Alkrington and Rhodes, leans to semis, home to 49.2% of its households. Woodfield Road in Alkrington's Woodside is often called the town's most expensive street. New building comes in small schemes: Kellen Homes' Mill-Vale off Oldham Road, Esteem Homes' Boarshaw Clough and Lovell's 39 homes at Green Bank on Langley. Homes inside Warwick Mill remain a proposal.
- Langley, Hollin and Boarshaw ex-council houses: grease on kitchen units and staining along bathroom sealant
- Town-centre terraces: rear yards swept where the inventory lists them, older enamel baths and tiled fire surrounds
- Mill-Vale and Boarshaw Clough new builds: fingerprints on gloss doors, integrated appliance fronts, dust in extractor grilles

Common deposit issues in Middleton rentals.
Condensation is the damp to plan for. Rochdale Council's tenant guidance calls it the most common form, says most people produce at least four pints of moisture a day, and asks for extractor fans, lids on pans, no washing dried on radiators and windows wiped each morning. A 2025 Greater Manchester Tenants Union report describes damp and mould as widespread in Riverside homes on Langley. In the mid-century houses it tends to reach the checkout as black spotting on window seals and along bath sealant.
Rochdale Council has not introduced selective licensing. Its additional licensing, approved in October 2024, covers houses shared by three or four people across the whole borough, with the mandatory licence applying from five. In a shared house the kitchen and bathroom tend to be checked as common space, so agree in writing which share of the clean is yours.
Rochdale's bulky collection runs only on your usual bin day, with items outside by 7am and put out no earlier than the day before; nothing is collected from inside the house. Every property is allowed two free pickups a year, each of up to three items. We do not remove belongings or rubbish, so book the collection before the clean.
Local guidance: Rochdale bulky-item collection and preparation · Rochdale damp, mould and condensation advice.
- Langley bedrooms: condensation mould on uPVC seals and in the cold corners behind wardrobes
- Bulky items: Rochdale collects only from outside the house, by 7am on your bin day
- Soft M24 water: soap film on shower screens and tiles matters more than limescale

Getting to your Middleton property.
Middleton's own stations closed under Beeching in 1964, so rail now means Mills Hill, about a mile east of the centre on Oldham Road. It is unstaffed, with lifts to both platforms and a free 30-space car park, and trains run direct to Manchester Victoria, Rochdale, Bolton, Wigan Wallgate and Leeds; timetable listings give an average of 12 minutes to Victoria. There is no Metrolink stop, and Rochdale Council runs seven car parks in the town centre. The bus station on Middleton Way has 14 stands, with the 17 and 156 to Shudehill and the 18 between Langley and Manchester Royal Infirmary. For the van, the A664 runs up from Blackley through Alkrington, fed by M60 junction 20 (no westbound exit), while junction 19 takes the A576 and M62 junction 19 leads onto the A6046.
Local guidance: Rochdale Council car parks.

The Middleton rental market we know.
On Langley, private renting is growing out of the council era. A Greater Manchester Tenants Union report counts 301 privately rented households in the census area covering Langley in 2001, and 638 by 2021. West Middleton ward, which includes Langley, still had 40.7% of households in social housing in 2021. Mills Hill station is busier too: 0.304 million entries and exits in 2024 to 2025, up from 0.190 million in 2021 to 2022.
Among the town-centre letting agents, Adamsons Barton Kendal trades from 13 Long Street, Henstock Property Services from 24 Fountain Street and Ryder & Dutton from 33 Middleton Gardens.
The town centre is the focus of the Middleton Co-operative Mayoral Development Corporation, and in September 2026 the council struck a deal to buy Warwick Mill and the 1960s London House block beside it. London House is due to come down and the mill may become homes; a 2025 report put that at 300 apartments, but it remains a proposal.
